What is a Tongue Tie or Lip Tie?

Tongue tie (ankyloglossia) occurs when the band of tissue (lingual frenulum) under the tongue is too tight, thick, or short, restricting tongue movement.

Lip tie occurs when the tissue connecting the upper lip to the gum (labial frenulum) is too tight or restrictive, limiting normal lip movement.

Both conditions can affect infants, children, and adults and may impact feeding, speech, oral development, oral/dental health, and overall quality of life.
